Jesus says, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32). True freedom is found in Jesus! When we place our faith in Jesus, He sets us free from our brokenness and sinfulness. Not only that, but Jesus also sets us free from sin’s power as we continue to abide in Him. One great way to do that is by spending time in scripture listening to God’s voice.
That’s why this summer we want to encourage our whole church family to take on the Summer of SOAP Challenge! For 13 weeks we want to challenge you to SOAP in the Bible at least once a week (or more!). And it doesn’t have to be long, maybe just 5-15 minutes. Read the scripture of the day OR a chapter of your choosing and then reflect, write about, and pray through God’s word. You can certainly pick any book that you’d like, but if you’d like, we have 13 weeks of readings that we’d invite you to participate in with the whole church!
How to SOAP
O - Observation
What do you think God is saying
to you in this scripture? Ask the
Holy Spirit to teach you and
reveal Jesus to you.
P - Prayer
This can be as simple as asking
God to help you use this scripture,
or even a prayer for a greater
insight on what God may be
revealing to you. Remember,
prayer is a two-way conversation,
so be sure to listen to what God
has to say! Now, write it out.

S - Scripture
Open your Bible to your reading
for the day. Take time reading
and allow God to speak to you.
When you are done, look to see
if a verse particularly spoke to
you that day, and write it in
your journal.
A - Application
Personalize what you have read,
by asking yourself how it applies
to your life right now. Perhaps
it is instruction, encouragement,
a new promise, or corrections
for a particular area of your life.
Write how this scripture can
apply to you today.
